12 years of tent camping and I just learned groundsheets go INSIDE the tent

Last weekend near Flagstaff the floor was soaked through by 6am and it hit me that my footprint was funneling rain under the fly instead of catching it, so has anyone else been doing this wrong or am I the only one who never read the manual?

Twelve years is a solid run though, most people never figure out half the stuff they're doing wrong with gear. It's funny how we all learn the hard way, like reading the instructions is somehow cheating. I've noticed that pattern everywhere, not just camping. People will assemble furniture wrong or set up a new phone backwards for years because nobody wants to admit they skipped the manual. Then one day it clicks and you feel both stupid and relieved at the same time. At least you caught it before water ruined your sleeping bag permanently.
