Turns out my truck's stock ladder rack is rated for half what I thought

Ngl, I was scrolling the manufacturer spec sheet for a 2021 install at a Fort Worth job and saw the load rating was 250 lbs, not the 500 I always assumed. My foreman laughed and said half our crew has been overloading theirs for years with cable spools and buckets. Anyone else ever check their rack's real limit after hauling way past it?

...which honestly tracks with like every piece of equipment I've ever owned. It's wild how we just trust the number someone told us once, or the number on the side of the box, until something actually forces us to read the fine print. Same thing happens with tow straps, extension cords, even the weight limit on my attic floor joists, I just assume it's fine until a buddy who actually knows better points it out. I mean, at least you found out before something snapped on the highway, so there's that silver lining. Idk, it kinda makes me wonder what else I've been flying blind on just because nobody ever bothered to check.
