I stopped clamping face frames and started using a 2 dollar bungee trick on my cabinet glue ups
Last Tuesday I was gluing up a face frame for a maple cabinet in my garage in Boise and my 6 clamps kept sliding off the stiles right when I needed them tight. I grabbed a 24 inch bungee cord, hooked one end to a screw in my bench, and wrapped the other around the frame corner, then tightened it with a scrap stick like a tourniquet. That little bit of constant pull held everything square while I got the clamps set, and it saved me from a crooked corner I would have had to sand flat. Has anyone else tried bungee tension on glue ups, or do you have a better trick for holding a frame still while you clamp?
