Criticized for my drawer slides and it stuck with me

This old school cabinetmaker named Dave over in Springfield told me my undermount slides were garbage because I wasn't checking the side clearance right. He showed me how to measure 3 spots on each side instead of just eyeballing it, and now I haven't had a single bind since. Anyone else get a piece of advice that made you redo your whole process?

Nah, calling drawers "character building" is just a way of dodging the problem. That old guy in Springfield gave you the real fix, not some joke to cover up bad work. Measuring three spots sounds tedious but it's the difference between a drawer that works and one that makes you want to throw it across the room. I've seen too many guys slap slides in and hope for the best, then blame the hardware when it binds. You either check the clearance or you don't. There's no middle ground in this trade.

Honestly, that measuring three spots thing hits me hard. I had a guy tell me I was "eyeballing" my drawer slides too and I felt like a total hack. Tbh I still mess up the clearance sometimes, but now I just tell clients my drawers are "character building" when they stick.
