Made a butter robot meme about existential dread and my uncle actually took it seriously
I put together a quick edit showing the robot staring at a toaster with the caption "even the simple ones have purpose" and my uncle called me worried I was depressed. Has anyone else had a meme go right over a family member's head like that?

Oh man, I used to roll my eyes at people who'd freak out over memes but honestly your post kind of shifted my view on it. It's wild how something that's clearly a joke to us can actually hit different for older folks who aren't in on the humor. Makes me wonder how many times I've accidentally worried my own relatives without realizing it.

My 67 year old uncle actually called me once at 2 in the morning after I shared one of those "when the pizza rolls are ready" memes. He thought something terrible had happened to me. I felt so bad. So yeah @elliots49 you're totally right, I used to think people were being too sensitive about memes but now I get it. It's like speaking a whole different language and forgetting not everyone has the translation.
