Had to pick between a custom meme maker and just using the free template sites

Back in 2018 I was trying to make a butter robot meme for a friend's birthday and I couldn't decide between paying $15 for a fancy meme generator app or just using one of those free sites with the watermarks. I chose the free route... spent like 3 hours cropping out the little logo in Paint.NET because the site plastered it right over the robot's face. The meme turned out okay but I still laugh when I see that weird blurry spot where the watermark used to be. Anyone else ever waste way too much time removing watermarks from free meme templates?

Oh man, that brings back some memories. I tried making a Drake meme for a group chat once and used one of those free sites that slaps their logo across the bottom right corner. Ended up spending an hour in GIMP trying to clone stamp that thing out, but it left this messy greenish blob because the background was all dark. The meme still got laughs but every time I see it now I just see that ugly patch. Honestly feel like if I had just paid the few bucks I would have saved way more time and headaches. The butter robot one sounds like a classic though, that blurry spot probably makes it more memorable.
