PSA: I was scrubbing my cast iron pan with soap for 8 years before a customer called me out

Had a lady drop off her poodle and saw me scraping my skillet in the break room. She almost had a heart attack. Told me I was stripping the seasoning every time. Had no idea. Been doing it since I got the pan from my grandma. She showed me the salt and oil trick right there in the shop. Changed how I cook everything. Anybody else get roasted by a stranger for bad kitchen habits?

I read this thing once where a chef said soap is fine for modern pans just not the old school seasonings. They said it's more about the scrubbing than the soap itself.
