I spent $80 leaving 4 bad reviews last year, then a shop owner in Cleveland mailed me a receipt and I felt sick
Last week I went back through my Google account and counted every review I left in 2024. Eleven total, and four of them were 1-star rants about small things like a 12 minute wait for fries or a guy at a tire counter who had a bad day. One of those was a two sentence hit job on a family place in Cleveland, and I never thought about it again until the owner found my email and sent me a photo of their slow week. I sat there doing the math on what a couple of those reviews cost a place that runs on maybe 40 customers a day. Since then I read reviews out loud before I post them and I ask myself if I would say it to the person's face. Still deciding if a 3-star with real details is more useful to shoppers than a 5-star that says nothing. What makes you trust a review enough to actually read it?
