Update: it took me 3 hours to make rice krispie treats because I burned 2 batches of marshmallows

Honestly I thought this was the easiest dessert on earth. First batch went up in flames in my saucepan on Tuesday, second batch turned into a brown rock I had to chisel out with a butter knife. The smoke alarm went off twice and my neighbor knocked on the wall. Third try I finally just microwaved the marshmallows in 30 second bursts like a normal person. Why did nobody ever tell me melted marshmallows go from perfect to charcoal in like 5 seconds?
