Appreciation post: that $6 dollar store timer saved my Tuesday dinner

Was at a friend's place in Portland watching them burn rice for the third time this month. She had a fancy phone timer going but kept scrolling and losing track. I pulled out this little plastic timer I bought at Dollar Tree back in March. Set it, walked away, dinged right on time. She asked to keep it and I grabbed another pack of 3 on my way home. Why do we trust screens so much when a dumb beeper does the job better? Anyone else hanging onto cheap kitchen gear that outperforms the expensive stuff?

Keep buying that timer separate from your phone, it'll outlive three upgrades.
