Why does nobody talk about the corkboard at the downtown library

I was at the main branch in Portland last Tuesday and saw a flyer for a free composting workshop that actually changed how I sort my kitchen waste. Has anyone else found something unexpectedly useful on a random bulletin board?

Exactly the opposite here. Those corkboards are nothing but clutter and outdated junk. Every time I walk past one I see events from three months ago still stapled there, fading and peeling. It makes the whole library look messy and unprofessional, like nobody cares enough to clean up. Honestly, the internet solved this problem years ago. If someone wants to find a composting workshop or a lost cat, they can post it on Facebook or Nextdoor where people actually see it. Physical flyers just waste paper and get ignored by 99% of people walking by. And the good stuff gets buried under all the trash. Between the guitar lessons, the vegan potlucks, and the "free Reiki healing" scams, you have to dig through a mountain of nonsense to find one useful thing. Not worth the time. The library should just take those boards down and put up more bookshelves or study tables. That would actually help people.

Fading and peeling" hit me right in a memory, man. I used to work at a coffee shop that had a corkboard, and there was this one flyer for a lost parrot that stayed up for six months. The owner kept calling and asking, like maybe this time someone peeled off the tab? I finally took it down after the ink was completely gone, just a ghost of a parrot silhouette. But you know what's weird about that? That old flyer actually brought in more conversation than the new ones. People would stand there and point at it, go "I remember that bird," and then we'd all laugh. So maybe the clutter has a weird social value, even if it's not useful for finding a composting workshop or a lost cat. Not defending the Reiki scams though. Those can go. And the three-month-old events? Yeah, someone needs to play janitor on those boards. But I dunno, a little bit of chaos gives a place character. Like a library that's too clean feels like a hospital, and that's no place for a book, right?
