Which cork board wins for local event ads: messy free-for-all or organized grid?

I was looking at the bulletin board at Joe's Coffee Shop on Main Street last week and noticed two totally different styles on the same board. On the left side someone had stuff just tacked up everywhere overlapping, a yoga class flyer half covering a garage sale notice. On the right side it was all lined up neat in rows with even spacing. The messy side had way more stuff but I couldn't read half of it. The grid side was easier to look at but only had like 6 flyers. Which approach actually gets more people to take a flyer home? Has anyone here tested both ways on their community board?

Man that's actually a really good question, I've wondered the same thing myself.

My neighbor taped a lost cat poster over his own band's show date once and nobody showed up.
