Just spotted a flyer at the laundromat saying our town's first building was a grist mill, not the hotel everyone talks about.
Found it pinned next to the lost cat posters. Has anyone else seen local history facts pop up in unexpected places?

That old hotel's been the cover of the town brochure forever, so I always figured it was the first. Then last week I was digging through the library's basement sale and found a ledger from the mill dated 1847. That's a good ten years older than the hotel's foundation stone I used to stare at. @michaelrodriguez, I think you're right about them sticking these facts by the vending machine - maybe near the snack selection people actually stop to look at. Honestly, seeing that flyer next to a lost tabby made me realize how much history just gets buried under newer stories. I bet there's more truth hiding in those weird corners than in the official plaques.

Hiding with the missing pets is about right. Probably put up by the same person who staples coupons to the light poles. Next they'll correct the founding date on a takeout menu.

Guess the real history is hiding with the missing pets. That's a weird place for a history lesson, but at least it's getting out there. Maybe they should put the next one by the vending machine.
