Found a hand-drawn map to a 'secret' yard sale with vintage wallpaper
It was pinned next to the lost cat posters at the laundromat. I followed the map to a house with rolls of old floral paper. Bought some to redo my bathroom, thinking it would be charming. The pattern is so busy it makes me dizzy just to look at it. My friend said it looks like a 1970s motel threw up in there.

Did your friend consider that the problem might be your bathroom lighting and not the paper itself? That busy floral pattern needs warm, soft light to feel cozy instead of overwhelming. Try it with some vintage amber bulbs before you decide to scrap it, because good vintage wallpaper has a depth you just don't get with new stuff.

Yeah, I read that old wallpaper paste can get really brittle. If it was stored in a damp basement or something, you might have trouble getting it to stick right, or it could start peeling in a few months. That floral stuff is a commitment. Once it's up, it's a huge pain to take down if you hate it.

Wait, the_susan, are you saying someone would actually store wallpaper paste in a damp basement? That's asking for trouble. I saw a batch go bad in a garage one summer, and it turned into a lumpy, sour-smelling mess that wouldn't stick to anything. You'd be fighting bubbles and loose edges from day one. Using old paste is like building your house on sand.
