I finally found the exact page where Ryder Carroll explains why he keeps the original system so simple
I was flipping through the Bullet Journal Method book for the third time last night and noticed something I swear I missed before. On page 42 he talks about how the rapid logging method was designed specifically for people with short attention spans - not just for design or aesthetics. That really hit home because I've been overcomplicating my monthly spreads for months. Has anyone else discovered a detail in the book that changed how they set up their own journal?

Ran across that part a few months ago myself and it totally clicked for me too. I was making these crazy color coded trackers with washi tape borders and stickers for every single day. Then I read where he talks about how the system is supposed to be for capturing thoughts fast not making art projects. I ended up stripping everything back to just a black pen and a straight line for my monthly calendar. Funny enough my productivity actually went up after that because I wasn't spending 20 minutes trying to make a spread look Instagram worthy.

20 minutes on a planner layout seems like overkill for something meant to just jot down tasks, @michael880.
