From skeptic to believer: How color-coding my moods made a difference

I always thought color-coding feelings was over the top (like, too artsy). But after a month, the visual trend spotted a slump before I did. Now I won't skip it.

Still seems like a lot of effort for little gain. My phone already tracks enough without me coloring in my feelings. Natural awareness beats forced systems.

But what if your phone can't log the small stuff? I tried an app for mood tracking once and it just asked for happy/sad. Writing it myself, I caught that my mood dips after too much coffee, or when I skip my walk. The phone knows I was at the cafe, but it doesn't know I was arguing with my sister there. That's the gain, you see the cause and not just the place.

Ever give manual tracking a real shot? I used to think the same, but jotting things down forced me to NOTICE patterns my phone missed. Phones log location and steps, but they don't catch why Tuesday mornings always suck. Spending two minutes at night with a notebook made my low moods make SENSE. That tiny effort showed me triggers I could actually fix. Natural awareness is great, but sometimes you need a system to see what's right in front of you.
