Question about keeping food costs down with a small freezer
I visited a little grocery store in Akron last month called the Discount Grocery Outlet. They sell stuff that's close to the sell-by date or just overstock, really cheap. I grabbed a pack of chicken thighs for $1.50 a pound and a big bag of frozen broccoli for a buck. That trip alone saved me about $20 compared to my usual store. I started planning my meals around those random deals instead of what I want to eat. It's been three weeks and my grocery bill dropped from $80 to $55 per week. Has anyone else tried those discount grocery places, or did you find it too hit or miss to bother with?

My first time at a Discount Grocery Outlet in Cleveland I almost walked right back out because the smell was kinda funky, like old cardboard and onion. But I forced myself to look past that and grabbed a bag of frozen peppers and a pork loin for under 4 bucks total. I used to think those places were just dumping grounds for expired stuff nobody wanted, but honestly the meat has been fine as long as I cook it that day or freeze it right away. Now I hit mine every Saturday morning and plan my whole week around whatever shocks me with the lowest price. It totally feels hit or miss at first, but once you get the hang of it the savings are too good to ignore.

Does that store have a weird smell inside too or is it just the one near me? I walked into mine and it hit me like a wall of stale bread and old meat.
