My mechanic in Cleveland quoted $200 for new rear pads, but I grabbed a $45 kit from the parts store on West 25th and did it myself in the driveway. Two weeks later the brakes squeal every time I touch the pedal, and I'm out $45 plus whatever a real shop wants to fix my mess.
