I finally stopped buying brand name trash bags after a neighbor called me out

My neighbor saw me hauling out a box of Glad bags and just laughed. Said he buys the dollar store ones for $2 and they work fine. I did the math and realized I was spending almost $200 a year on garbage bags. That conversation made me rethink all my household brand loyalty stuff. Has anyone else had a random chat completely change how you budget?

Wait, you were dropping almost $200 a year on Glad bags? That's crazy. I mean I get it, I used to think name brands meant quality too. But plastic bags are plastic bags for the most part. You're basically paying for the brand name printed on the box. I use the store brand ones from Walmart and they hold up just fine for my kitchen trash.

Hang on, I'm gonna play devil's advocate here for a second. I've had way too many dollar store bags split open on me in the middle of taking out the trash, leaking coffee grounds and god knows what else all over my kitchen floor. That saved $50 isn't worth cleaning up raw chicken juice at 7am, trust me.
