Envelope system vs apps: which actually keeps you on track longer?
I was at a coffee shop downtown last month and overheard two people arguing about budgeting methods. One swore by cash envelopes from the library workshop she took, the other was all-in on YNAB. I've been doing the envelope thing for about 6 months now and it's helped me cut my grocery spending by $80 a month just by seeing the physical cash disappear. But then I look at apps and think, maybe I'm missing out on automatic tracking and reports that could show bigger patterns. On the other hand, my buddy tried Mint for 3 weeks and said he just ignored the notifications after day 5. Has anyone here switched from one method to the other and noticed a real difference in how long you stuck with it?

...I mean, we're talking about spending a little less on groceries, not curing world hunger, right? If it works for you it works, doesn't have to be some big life philosophy.
