Thought ryanair personal item rules were a myth until I got charged 46 euros at the gate in Dublin
I always figured the budget airlines just eyeball your bag and let you slide if it looks close enough. Then last Tuesday at the Dublin gate a Ryanair worker pulled out a metal sizer and my backpack did not fit by about an inch. I stood there for 20 minutes while she explained I could either pay 46 euros or start pulling clothes out and wearing three layers in front of everyone. It took me almost 3 trips before I finally bought a cheap handheld luggage scale for 8 bucks and started measuring my bag at home with a tape measure every single time. Now I want to know if anyone has a specific backpack brand that actually fits the 40x20x25 cm box without paying extra, or do you all just wear everything you own on the plane?
