The $3 hostel breakfast in Lisbon that made me ditch my grocery-store yogurt habit

I used to hit the Pingo Doce every morning to save cash, but after a 6 AM walking tour in Alfama last March, the free bread, jam, and coffee at my hostel had me out the door faster and I actually spent less on lunch because I wasn't snacking, has anyone else found that paying a few bucks for a meal gets you better value than DIY?
