That $40 hostel breakfast add-on in Lisbon was a scam

I paid the extra 40 bucks at this place near the Alfama district thinking it'd be a proper spread. It was stale bread, warm juice, and instant coffee, and I could've hit a local padaria for 3 euros total. After 5 days I would've blown 200 on garbage breakfasts alone. Anyone else get burned by hostel upsells that sound cheaper than they are?

Lisbon is the exact place I learned this lesson too, paid 35 at a place near Baixa and got a sad croissant plus powdered orange drink. The worst part is these hostels bank on you being too tired or lazy to walk five minutes. I started scoping out the nearest bakery on Google Maps before I even booked a room. If they push a breakfast deal hard at check-in, that's your first red flag right there.
