Got stuck in Rome for 6 hours because I booked a flight with a 45 minute layover in Munich

Last spring I was flying from Naples to New York and the cheapest option had me changing planes in Munich with only 45 minutes between flights. I thought I could make it work. Well the Naples flight left 20 minutes late and by the time I got off the plane in Munich my gate was already closed. They put me on the next flight out which was 6 hours later. I spent those hours sitting on the floor near a pretzel stand. Now I never book a connection under 90 minutes for international flights. Has anyone else had a tight layover go bad like this?

Oh man, right? It's like the universe just decided to kick us while we were down. I had that same thing happen last month with my car battery dying in a grocery store parking lot in the rain. Not just any rain either, it was pouring and I had a trunk full of cold stuff. Had to wait an hour for a jump and everything was soaked by the time I got home. Makes you wonder why bad luck always hits at the worst possible time, doesn't it?
