A simple trick I saw in Lisbon saved me a lot of money

I was in Lisbon last month and noticed a lot of locals at the cafes were ordering coffee at the bar instead of sitting at a table. I asked about it and the barista told me a 'bica' at the counter costs about 70 cents, but the same coffee at a table is over 2 euros. I started doing this for my morning coffee and it really added up over a week. Has anyone else found a similar 'stand and drink' rule in other cities?

It's the same in Italy, you pay for the seat, not the drink.

But is the price difference that big a deal?
