PSA: that $15 bulk bag of lentils from Costco almost destroyed my kitchen

I bought a 25lb bag of red lentils for like $15 at Costco thinking I was being a genius. Then last week I tried to cook a big batch and the pot boiled over. Lentils went everywhere, all over the stove and floor. Has anyone else had a cheap bulk ingredient backfire on them like this?

Did you have the heat way up high or leave the pot unattended? Those red lentils expand like crazy, their basically little sponges that foam over faster than pinto or black beans. Asking because I cook dried beans and grains in bulk all the time and a tiny simmer with a lid cracked open has saved me from that exact mess more than once. What kind of stove and pot size were you using too? That might be the real problem here.

Jade47 nailed it with that pot size question. Red lentils humbled me once in a tiny pot and it was a mess.
