My neighbor Rosa in El Paso swore dried beans beat canned, and my grocery bill dropped $18 a month
I figured she was just being old school, but I tried her soak method with a bag of pinto beans that cost $1.29 and got six meals out of it. Now I keep a pot going on Sundays and skip the canned aisle entirely. Has anyone else made the switch, and do you bother with a pressure cooker or just let them sit overnight?
Why does everything have to turn into a whole Sunday ritual though? A $1.29 bag of beans saving you $18 a month sounds good on paper, but are you counting the hours you spend soaking and watching that pot? I'll grab a can and move on with my day.
