Found out canned beans cost 60% less than dried after factoring in my gas to simmer them for 2 hours.
Saw a breakdown on a cooking blog that compared the total cost per serving and it blew my mind since I always assumed dried was cheaper no matter what - has anyone else run the numbers on that?

Pin that cooking blog post to the fridge because my whole life has been a lie. I spent yesterday afternoon babysitting a pot of dry chickpeas while my neighbor microwaved a can in 90 seconds for the same result. Now I'm calculating the cost of my wasted youth staring at bubbling water.

My buddy Greg tried this exact thing last month after his wife bought 4 bags of dry beans on sale. He soaked them overnight, then stood over the stove for 3 hours stirring and skimming foam while his kid watched cartoons. Meanwhile his neighbor popped over with a can of baked beans from the pantry, warmed them in the microwave, and had dinner on the table before Greg even got the pot to a real boil. The kicker is Greg's beans came out STILL crunchy in the middle, so they ordered pizza anyway. @avery_walker30 you are not alone, that babysitting time is gone forever but at least you know better now.
