Canned tomatoes almost ruined my spaghetti sauce for weeks
I started buying the store brand canned tomatoes to save maybe 60 cents a can, figuring tomatoes are tomatoes right? Well after three separate batches of sauce that tasted kind of flat and metallic I finally looked closer at the cans. Turns out the cheap brand uses unlined cans with a liner that doesn't hold up, so you get that tinny flavor leaching in. Switched back to the name brand that costs a buck more and my sauce went back to normal. Anyone else notice certain canned goods just taste off from certain stores?

Ugh I really think you're overthinking this. I've used store brand canned tomatoes for years and honestly never noticed a difference. Maybe your taste buds just got used to the name brand or something? Like yeah if you're doing a blind taste test side by side maybe you'd catch something but "ruined for weeks" seems dramatic. My grandma used whatever was on sale and her sauce was always fire.

Gotta call it like I see it, this feels like a 'me problem' more than a tomato problem. Placebo effect is real with food, especially when you've already convinced yourself the cheap stuff is bad.
