My neighbor's 25 cent fix for a leaky faucet shocked me

I was about to buy a $40 repair kit when my neighbor Gary stopped me and said just swap the rubber washer for a quarter one from the hardware store. It took me 10 minutes and now the drip is gone. Have you guys ever had a fix that cheap actually outlast a full replacement part?
