My cousin swore by payday loan consolidation, so did my bank account a year later

Everyone on here says to never touch those debt settlement programs, but after 11 months of juggling 3 payday loans in Phoenix, consolidating through a credit union cut my payments from $640 to $210 a month... has anyone else found local credit unions more helpful than the big name advice always pushes?
