My $40 thrift store fridge died after 3 weeks, so I built a swamp cooler out of a box fan

Picked up a dorm fridge from the Goodwill in Tacoma for $40, thought I scored big. It lasted exactly 3 weeks before the compressor gave out with a loud clunk. Instead of tossing another $60 on a replacement, I grabbed a 20 inch box fan, a plastic tub, and some old towels. Draped the towels in the tub, pointed the fan at it, and it drops my bedroom temp by a solid 6 degrees. Has anyone else rigged up a DIY cooler that actually worked in a heatwave?

Ha, this is basically the American way at this point, right? We all keep patching together broken stuff instead of just buying new, and honestly it's kind of a beautiful mess.
