My $4 bread bag trick keeps greens fresh for 2 weeks
I got so tired of throwing out half a bag of spinach every 3 days, so I tried something random last month. I started stuffing a clean bread bag inside the salad bag, like a liner, and folding the top over. Turns out the extra plastic layer slows down the moisture exchange way better than the flimsy produce bag. Two weeks later the spinach still looked good enough to eat, not crispy or slimy at all. It costs nothing if you just save the bags from your own loaf. Anyone else found a weird packaging trick that actually beats the expensive containers?

The "slows down moisture exchange" part is kind of off. The bread bag is actually trapping the moisture the greens give off. That's why they stay crisp. If it slowed down exchange, they'd get soggy like in a sealed Tupperware. I tried it with a twist tie once, sealed tight, and the spinach got wet. Leave it open at the fold like you do, that's the real trick. Works good for celery too.
