Hot take: Dollar tree super glue fixed my broken work boots for like 3 months now

I was about to throw out my only pair of steel toes after the sole started flopping off at the heel. A new pair was gonna run me at least 50 bucks even on sale. I figured I had nothing to lose so I grabbed a 2 pack of that super glue gel from Dollar Tree for a buck 25. Cleaned the gap with rubbing alcohol first, squeezed a thick line in there, and clamped it with a rubber band overnight. Three months later and I'm still wearing them to my warehouse job every day with zero peeling. The trick is you gotta rough up the rubber and leather with sandpaper first so it actually sticks. Has anyone else tried this with like a different brand or should I just keep buying the cheap stuff?

Oh man, I feel like the queen of cheap fixes so this is totally my jam. I once super glued the strap back on my flip flop and it held for a whole beach vacation until I stepped in a puddle and it just... dissolved. Guess I didn't let it cure long enough or something. Your tip about sandpaper is genius though, I've been using that rough grit sandpaper from the hardware store on everything now, even fixed my kid's toy truck wheel with it. I bet that Dollar Tree stuff is just rebranded from the same factory as the expensive brands anyway, so keep rocking it until it fails.
