Saw a guy in Tulsa laying brick with a 6 foot level and it got me thinking about my grandfather's old 4 foot one
Was down in Tulsa doing a small repoint job on an old storefront on 11th Street when the crew next door caught my eye. Their lead guy had this 6 foot box level and he checked every course twice, once on the face and once on the head joint. My grandfather ran a 4 foot wood level for 40 years and his walls are still dead plumb today. I'm not saying the long level is wrong, but I do wonder how much we lean on tools now instead of the eye and the thumb. Any of you old timers still keep a short level for the small stuff, or is it all 6 foot and laser now?
