Old foreman told me to never buy cheap mortar on a Friday job
Back when I was starting out, my foreman said don't cheap out on mortar if you're working late Friday. I ignored him and grabbed the store brand mix. Ended up with half a wall cracking by Monday morning, cost me 4 hours to redo.

That "don't buy cheap mortar on Friday" thing sounds like something my old man would say. I once grabbed a bucket of cheap drywall mud on a Thursday afternoon to finish up a rush job and ended up with bubbles all over the ceiling that looked like a pimple outbreak. Had to scrape and redo the whole thing Saturday morning.
