Hit 1,000 bricks laid in one day for the first time at 43, and my hands are filing a complaint
I've been laying brick for 19 years and never cracked a thousand in a single day until last Thursday. The job was a small retaining wall out in Garland, nothing special, just a straight run with a soldier course on top. My helper kept the mud coming and I got into that rhythm where you stop thinking and your trowel just does the work. I looked up around 4pm and counted the course, 1,014 bricks in about 9 hours. My back was shot and I had mortar in places mortar should not be, but I sat in the truck for a minute just grinning like an idiot. I always figured the young guys were the only ones hitting those numbers, so it felt good to know the old technique still has some gas in it. Any of you keep a running tally on big days, or am I the only one weird enough to count?
