Big box store mortar mix nearly cost me a chimney rebuild in Nashville
I always grabbed the premixed stuff from Home Depot cause it was easy. Then last spring I did a chimney repoint over near East Nashville and that mix just wouldnt cure right in the humidity, cracked all over within 2 weeks. Had to chip it out and redo with proper Type N I mixed myself on site, cost me an extra 400 bucks in materials and 2 days. Now I tell anyone starting out to learn your sand and cement ratios instead of trusting the bag. Anyone else had a supplier or product fail them on a job that made you switch how you prep?
