TIL a random fact about ferns from a stranger at the nursery

I overheard this older guy telling someone ferns don't actually flower, they reproduce through spores on the underside of leaves, and it made me realize how little I actually know about common plants. Has anyone else learned something basic from a random conversation?

Did you ask the guy how ferns can survive without flowers, or did you just nod along and pretend you already knew that? I feel like I hear stuff like that all the time at nurseries but never get the whole story... it's always just one little fact dropped on you. Makes me wonder how many other common plants have weird secrets we walk right past.

Wait did you actually look at the fern yourself after he said that, or did you just take his word for it? I always wonder how many of those random nursery facts are actually true lol.
