That exotic orchid seller on Etsy I was sure was a scam turned out legit
I ordered a Vanda coerulea from a shop in Florida with only 12 reviews back in March. Figured I'd lose my $45 but the plant arrived in 3 days, packed perfectly with sphagnum moss. The roots were fat and green, not a single bruise. It's now throwing out a flower spike after 4 months of my mediocre care. Has anyone else taken a chance on a small orchid seller and gotten lucky?

Wait, you actually had a good experience with a tiny shop like that? That's awesome, seriously. I love hearing when a risky buy works out, especially with something as picky as a Vanda.

That's awesome, seriously" is right, @faith_perez. Though I'd say Vandas are actually easier than people think once you get the watering down, not really "picky" if you keep them humid. I nearly skipped my order from a 15-review shop in Hawaii because of the low count, but the Den she sent had canes thicker than my thumb. Guess sometimes the tiny shops just care more about packing than the big ones do.
