I finally had a good plant week after 3 months of everything dying

So last week was wild for me. After losing 4 houseplants since January, including my big monstera that I'd had for 5 years, I found a healthy calathea at a nursery near my work in Tacoma and it actually bounced back after repotting. Then my snake plant sprouted a pup, which I didn't even know it was doing. I think the difference was I stopped watering on a schedule and started checking the soil with my finger like my grandma always told me. I also moved everything off the cold windowsill after I read someone's post about drafts killing roots. Has anyone else hit a streak like this after a long losing run, or is my luck just going to run out next week? What's your go to fix when plants keep declining?
