Counted 47 types of moss on one creek bank this morning

I spent two hours by the little creek behind my folks' place in Eugene and stopped counting when I hit 47 distinct mosses, some no bigger than a thumbnail. I thought I knew the area pretty well but that forced me to look closer at bark, rocks, even an old boot. Has anyone else tried a slow survey like that and gotten surprised by the diversity?

That old boot detail got me, I love that you counted until you hit 47 and then just kept going. Good on you for actually taking the time to look that close, most people would've quit after ten.
