A groundskeeper at the Memphis Botanic Garden showed me his compost pile and I went home and rebuilt mine
Was walking the gardens in Memphis back in April and this older groundskeeper named Ray let me poke around his compost setup behind the maintenance shed. He keeps three piles going and flips them every 9 days, which sounded like way too much until he dug in and showed me the middle one steaming on a 60 degree morning. Mine had been sitting cold for almost a year because I never turned it, so I split it into two bins and started flipping on his schedule. Two months in and the difference is nuts, so now I'm wondering if anyone else has a flip routine that actually works or if I'm just copying one guy's habit.
