I finally switched from bookmark folders to a plain text file for saving boring websites

Used to have this massive nested folder system for all the dull sites I found, but after losing track of a page about municipal water pipe specs for 6 months, I just dumped everything into a single .txt file with dates and tags. Anyone else ditched organized bookmarks for something dumber but faster?

Wait, are you backing this text file up anywhere? Because I lost my entire plain text list when my old laptop died, and let me tell you, trying to remember which random plumbing forum had that one diagram about lead pipe joints was a nightmare. I do the same stupid system now but I keep a copy on a flash drive and in my email drafts. The real trick is putting the exact search terms you used to find the page in the first place. That way if the link dies you can still dig it up again.

Wait you keep the damn search terms in there too? That's actually genius. I just threw the URL and a vague tag like "pipe stuff" and hoped for the best. Bet you never lose a link twice with that system. I should dig through my file tonight and add that.
