Just finished my 50th case binding and it finally clicked
I started bookbinding as a hobby about 8 months ago and just hit 50 case bindings yesterday (a little travel journal for a friend). It surprised me because for the first 30 or so I struggled with getting the spine square and was ready to give up, but now the steps feel automatic. Has anyone else hit a random milestone that made the craft suddenly feel less like fighting and more like flow?

Congrats on hitting 50, even if it took way more tries than you expected. @riverf34 gets it, that muscle memory thing is real. I still have days where I glue my fingers together and wonder if I'm actually an adult with opposable thumbs, so it must be something in the water. Fifty books later and you've basically unlocked the cheat codes now, just don't drop the next one on your foot like I did with #47.

Oh I know that feeling well. It took me over a year before case binding started making sense to me, and even then there were days I wondered why I kept at it. That moment when your hands just know what to do without you having to think about every little step is something else. It's like your muscles finally learned the dance and your brain can just watch. Glad you stuck with it, 50 books is a real accomplishment.
