Can we talk about how my book club ignored my pick and it backfired

I pushed for us to read 'The Midnight Library' for our February meeting because my coworker Jen swore it would spark deep talks. Nobody wanted to read it, so we voted and went with 'Project Hail Mary' instead. Three weeks later, half the group admitted they skimmed it and the discussion lasted maybe 15 minutes. Has anyone else had a pick fall flat after someone gave you the wrong advice on what to choose?
