Spent 3 hours crawling inside a 60-inch drum last Tuesday, and I finally stopped fighting the mirror
Six years ago I would wedge my head through the manway and guess at the weld seam on the far side, then climb out, walk around, climb back in, over and over. Last Tuesday I switched to a cheap magnetic mirror stuck to the shell before I even crawl in, and I spotted a hairline crack in 20 minutes flat on a boiler drum at the shop in Baton Rouge. Your mileage may vary by shell size, but the mirror saved my knees and my patience. Wish I had swallowed my pride about it sooner, honestly. Any of you got a trick for seeing the back side of a drum without turning into a contortionist?
