Got talked into trying a $15 paint stripper from Home Depot instead of my usual $40 brand
I was working on a 3-foot steel water tank last Tuesday and needed to strip some old epoxy. Figured I'd try the cheap stuff since the guy at the counter swore by it, and it ate through three layers faster than my go-to brand. Has anyone else found an off-brand product that actually works better than the expensive stuff?

Last Tuesday I grabbed a $10 can of Klean-Strip from Ace and it melted through old varnish faster than the $30 stuff. Sometimes the cheaper brands use stronger solvents that just work better on tough coatings. Price doesn't always mean quality when it comes to chemical strippers.

Yeah I had the same thing happen with some old shellac on a desk I was refinishing. The cheap stuff from the hardware store just cut through it like butter, no joke. I tried the expensive "eco friendly" stripper first and it barely touched it after an hour. Sometimes you just gotta go with the harsh chemicals to get the job done, especially on the really stubborn old finishes.
