Spent $150 on a domain name that turned out to be a scam blog network

I paid for a blog I thought was a real person writing about birdwatching in Vermont, but it was just a content farm reposting stolen photos. Has anyone else run into these fake niche blogs that look authentic at first glance?

Holy CRAP that is SO creepy. Birdwatching in Vermont sounds so harmless and specific too, it's the PERFECT cover. I almost fell for a "homesteading" blog from someone claiming to live in rural Oregon, they had cute photos of chickens and a garden and everything. Turned out the same exact pictures were on three other "different" blogs, just different states and hobbies swapped in. People are really putting in the work to make these fake blogs look real right down to the weather reports and local coffee shop mentions. It makes me paranoid about every single blog I follow now.

So @sandraf84, did those homesteading blogs also share the same "about me" page just with a different name? That is just lazy. I get being paranoid, these folks are basically running a con on people looking for community.
