Shoutout to that one guy who runs a blog about fixing old clocks
I was talking to a retired watchmaker named Carl at a garage sale last Saturday and he mentioned this tiny blog called 'Tick Tock Tales' that teaches you how to restore grandfather clocks with just basic tools. He showed me a post about replacing a 1960s chime rod with a steel bolt from the hardware store and it totally blew my mind how simple it was. Has anyone else stumbled across a niche hobby blog that actually saved you money or time?

Carl's bolt trick is genius, I've saved like fifty bucks on parts already.

Man, I gotta be honest - at first I thought the bolt trick was just another way to overthink a simple job. Figured spending a few bucks on the right bolt was easier than messing with some hack. But then I tried it on my old truck's alternator bracket, and those M10 bolts were stripped to hell. Saved me a trip to the hardware store and about twelve bucks, which is laughable but felt good. Still not gonna use it on anything critical like brake calipers, though. Your mileage may vary, but I can see the appeal now.
